I’ve been thinking of some sort of outdoor installation that would encourage people (or at least children) to go out in the wind and rain (as this is the weather outside today). My idea is to create a sound sculpture that only produces sound when it is wet and windy. It would be part of a play area and would involve there being a large hollow tube sticking out of the ground. The tube would function like the mouth-piece of a reed instrument: it would have a thin bit of wood attached to it that when moistened and vibrated (via the wind) would produce sound. On the floor around this high tube would be a number of holes that could be covered by either feet, bums or whole bodies. Covering these holes would change the pitch that the large reeded tube would produce.
